Katagami  型紙 (stencil paper) with geometric motif. Used to dye fabrics, katagami are made from mulberry paper that takes a year to cure. During that process the paper is lacquered and dyed with persimmon juice to allow for repeated use in the fabric dying process.  Each piece of paper is hand cut. For multi-colored fabric patterns each dye color gets it's own stencil. After the paper is ready for use, dye or resist paste is brushed through the openings to create an image.
