Reversible firefighter's hanten 半纏 (heavier weight coat made popular in the 18th century) with sashiko 刺し子 (traditional hand stitching or quilting used as reinforcement and decoration) throughout.  The coat is made from multiple layers of cotton held together with upwards of 100 stitches per square inch.  Interior features tsutsugaki 筒描 (resist dying process) imagery of roof tiles.  The tiles, being made of ceramic unable to burn in a fire, are symbols of good luck to firefighters.
