When Taibi was young , Hagi ware was not widely recognized as a work of art in the pottery world, and was mostly considered a craft or commercial product made ā€œas a hobby. ā€œ Questioning this situation, Taibi enrolled in the Tokyo School of Fine Arts (now Tokyo University of the Arts) to study sculpture and became a disciple of the potter Hajime Kato. Upon returning to Hagi, Omaya dedicated himself to pottery making, pursuing ā€œa beauty of pottery that transcends traditionā€ and ā€œa concept that is not bound by tradition alone,ā€ and energetically exhibited his works at art exhibitions.
