[Artist Biography]
【 日比野 白圭 】Hibino Hakkei (1825-1914)
A samurai of the Owari domain, he first studied painting under Takeda Keiho 竹田景甫, then became a pupil of Suzumura Keizan 鈴村景山, and further studied under Mori Takamasa 森高雅(1791-1864) in the Tosa school 土佐派. He excelled in portrait paintings, and was praised alongside Kimura Kinshu.
